Played some golf…

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Shot +4 or so over nine holes.  Made a triple on the first hole after hitting my tee shot into the water and blading it over the green.  Went on to go par, bogey, and then par my way back to the clubhouse.  I managed to drive the ball a lot better and hit my irons fairly good.  Short game was surprisingly good for some reason, lots of up and downs from around the green for par lol.  All in all hopefully I’ll bring some positive energy into the upcoming tournament I need to play in on Thursday.

Photog-wise I’m waiting on a couple of “new” lenses.  Well, both of them are used but hopefully in good shape.  A Tamron 28-75mm and the somewhat well-known 90mm 2.8 macro.  The 90mm macro I managed to snag is the older non-DI version, but I’m not really anticipating any problems with internal reflections from my camera’s sensor.  Who knows though, maybe I’ll lose a bit of contrast or something.  I’ll probably post my impressions of both lenses when I receive them.  Only time will tell whether or not the copy of the 28-75 I’m getting is going to be sharp or not.

Rainy Sunday

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

It’s been raining here all day so I guess I won’t get a chance to go to the driving range to practice my golf swing.  I’ll probably need to stop by at least a couple of times to get my swing at least semi-consistent before that charity tournament next week.

Works been busy for a while now but I think I can finally see the end in sight.  There’s still other projects to worry about, but some of the major ones are finally reaching their end, at least for the short-term.  Put in more hours than usual last week, including about 6 yesterday.  Tomorrow will be a busy day but hopefully it will be a productive one.

In figure news, recently received Alter’s Hirasawa Yui.  Wrote up a review on myfigurecollection.net for anybody interested.

Well, here’s hoping for a productive week.  Hopefully things will slow down enough for me to take a day off, but my boss mentioned this month is gonna be more crazy than the last so…hmm…who knows.

Helicopter

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Aw yeah, bought me a new helicopter.  I’ll probably bring it to work and get fired lol…well, hopefully not.  But I will bring it to work.  Right now it’s slowly charging via my usb port.

In other news…some nicolinks:

Got some new books

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

I somehow managed to be part of a feature on optimistic penguin’s blog!  She is doing a feature on figure photographers that inspire her and she has some great people featured in her currently ongoing spotlight series.  She herself is a great photographer and her blog is definitely worth checking out.  There are some great reviews and comics to be seen ^^!  Looking at all the other great photos makes me realize how I need to put more thought into my compositions.  Hopefully that aspect of my photography will improve as I get more comfortable behind the lens.

On to my most recent splurge…

Got some new books today.  This is probably the fastest I’ve ever got something I’ve ordered via EMS.  Got my shipping confirmation e-mail from HMV Japan on Monday afternoon and it arrived via post this morning.  Shipping cost was a bitch, but everything arrived safe and sound.

  • Hayate no Gotoku vol. 23 & 24
  • Esprit vol. 5
  • K-ON! Official Band Score Part 2
  • K-ON! Artbook with magazine cover and tribute illustrations

This brings my manga collection pretty much back up to date, with the exception of あっち、こっち.  Didn’t even realize a new volume came out for that one.  The K-ON! stuff is pretty good, probably try to learn a couple new songs from the character singles later on.  The artbook has some nice tribute arts, kind of makes me want to start drawing again.

In other news, I caught a cold a little earlier in the week, hopefully it goes away soon.  Every time I catch a cold it seems to aggravate my anxiety symptoms so been trying to take it easy, although work will be super busy until at least mid-May. I have a site visit to go to tomorrow afternoon on the other side of the island so hopefully things go okay.  Other than that, gotta try not to spend too much money and start saving again.  Is till have pre-orders pending that will probably trickle in towards the end of the April to early May but I should have enough funds stashed away to cover it.  March really did a number on my bank account -_-.

Kawaii Kon (Kauai Con)

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Another weekend come and gone, this one a little different from the rest.  Today marks the last day of our local three day anime convention, Kawaii Kon.  I stopped by a couple times on Saturday to check it out, somehow I remember it being better when I went three years ago, but overall I guess it wasn’t too bad. The highlight of the event was probably the giant totoro that would occasionally make the rounds, with an eager crowd of followers trailing just behind.

More pictures of the con up on my flickr page.  There was a group of people cosplaying Blazblue characters but I didn’t get a good chance to get their picture.  I did end up spending some money (besides the 25 bucks for a day pass and 10 bucks overall for parking).  In the end I got a bunch of small things that I probably didn’t need, but it ended up adding up to be a substantial amount of money. Oh well, my credit card bill was a little lower than I expected so I get to spread the debt over into next month, which should be a more frugal month.  I guess in the end I’m happy I went; it was better than staying at home all day.
